About Our Nonprofit Organization Capitol City Young Writers is a national 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to educating and inspiring young writers up to and including high school. Our goal is to educate today's youth on the art and craft of writing, so as to encourage their own love of writing. Students are exposed to fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, screenplay, broadcast radio, songwriting, and many other forms of creative writing.

Ela has long been an avid writer and her pieces have had the honor of being selected by such publications and writing affiliates as the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, Creative Communications, The Sacramento Poetry Center, and Writing Magazine. For the past two years, she has also been co-editor of her high school literary magazine, The Roseville Review. Ela serves as co-president of her high school Speech and Debate Club and co-editor of the 2009 Ankur (Sacramento Bengali Community) Deshari Magazine. Ela will bring enthusiasm and encouragement to the CCYW Literary Journal. Her hope is to help others get their voices heard and to learn something about her own writing in return. |
ELENA, Junior High, California

BREANNE, High School, California
Breanne has participated in two National Novel Writing Competitions (NaNoWriMo). She also writes short stories and poetry and is participating in CCYW's Master Mentor Program. Breanne is secretary of a creative writing club and Student Ambassador for the People to People Organization. As an ambassador, she has traveled to Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Washington, DC. Her interests include reading, riding her horses, spending time with her animals, and ballroom and salsa dancing. Breanne is also participating in the CCYW Master Mentor Program on her latest manuscript. |
ALEXA, High School, New York
Alexa has written five full manuscripts. She self-published her fourth young adult novel, Confessions from the Heart of a Teenage Girl, when she was only 14 yrs old. As part of CCYW's Master Mentor Program, Alexa is working with published author and CCYW board member Michele Scott on her fifth manuscript, A Blessing in Disguise. Alexa will take part in a teen author panel and will be speaking and signing books for the Reading Specialists Council of Suffolk in January, 2010. Aside from writing, Alexa enjoys playing varsity golf, contributing to the school newspaper, and taking journalism and IB courses. |

JAMIE, High School, California
Jamie has been an avid reader and writer all of her life. She plans to earn a masters degree in English and eventually work as an editor for a publishing company in New York. She is currently an intern with Dreisbach Literary Management. In her spare time, Jamie participates in her school's varsity cheer squad. |
